The Modern Family (Business): Roxanne Mukhi joins father Danny Mukhi at the helm of Istana Jewellers

December 2018 – December marks an important turning point in the Istana brand journey as the company welcomes an important new addition to the company, transforming the business into a family run-business.

Few fathers have the rare opportunity to be joined in the family business by their daughter, which is the honour granted Danny Mukhi when daughter, Roxanne Mukhi joined him on the senior management team of Istana this month.

No stranger to the world of entrepreneurship, Roxanne Mukhi leaves a decorated and illustrious career in PR, to take on the new role. Despite her busy schedule, which she split between Dubai and London, Roxanne has worked closely with father over the years, learning his craft and offering her input to many important business decisions. She will eventually take over the business entirely from her father, leading the company in a new direction.

Inspired by her father’s passion for jewellery and previous experience within the industry, the decision to join Istana was one made with great honour and pride for Roxanne.  In her new role, she hopes to steer the brand in a modern and forward thinking direction and ultimately shape the future of the brand.  She will work closely with her father developing the eponymous Istana Private Collection and adding exciting new brands to their current portfolio which will be unveiled in 2019. 

Danny Mukhi founded Istana in 2002 drawing on decades of experience in the sector working on high-end brands and the arts, such as Hermes, St Louis, Puiforcat and Lalique. His inspiration to create the brand came from his appreciation of loose gemstones, whilst a background in engineering honed his passion for innovative and high quality jewellery creation.

Speaking of her recent appointment, Roxanne says, “Taking up the role of Assistant Manager at Istana was a huge moment for me and a great source of pride. I have always looked up to my dad; finding great inspiration in how he runs a business. I am filled with awe and admiration at how he was able to create Istana from scratch and build such a successful businesses in such a fast-paced market. This philosophy of hard work and entrepreneurship was instilled upon me from a young age which was ultimately what lead me to build my own business in 2017.

Istana has been an important part of my life for years and during this time I have learnt a lot from my father about the industry and about running a successful businesses. My dad and I work incredibly well together due to our complementary skills and shared values. I am excited for what is to come for Istana as we embark on this new chapter.”
